Cafe Republic -Mermaid Beach
I could really get used to breakfasting at the beach with food and weather this good! The Gold Coast has such a relaxed feeling. Cafe republic is located in a quiet street across the road from mermaid beach surf club and a shaded park with play equipment for the kids.

We chose our breaky venue based on the Urbanspoon “like” rating of 87%.

When we arrived the cafe was packed with people enjoying a lazy start to their Sunday morning. We secured the last available table and then perused the menu. After a quick glance I admitted to Mr Gg that I had known what I would be ordering before we arrived. I had seen a picture of the grilled mushroom with avocado on grilled Turkish bread and I knew I had to try this dish.

It was served with hollandaise sauce and a nice slice of lemon. So delicious! The mushrooms had a hint of rosemary and were just so good with the creamy avocado and crunchy toasted Turkish bread.

I also ordered my usual wake up coffee, a skim milk cappuccino in a mug to help open my eyes and coax me into the day.
Happily, there was a choice of five fruit smoothies on the menu for Mr Gg, but of course he chose the banana smoothie as usual. It arrived icy cold in a tall metal milkshake container with a generous dusting of cinnamon, Yum!

The smoothies itself was thick with ice-cream and banana and had a generous dollop of honey for added sweetness. After a few slurps hubby declared that this was the best banana smoothie so far on the Gold Coast. Given that he chooses a banana smoothie everywhere we go, I consider this a glowing recommendation.

Little Miss A decided on a sweet breakfast of cinnamon dust croissant with strawberries and strawberry jam.
In true boy form, Locky didn’t care what he ate as long as it included bacon. I ordered him the Breakfast Bagel because Mr GG had been considering this dish. I figured if I ordered the Bagel for Locky there was a fair chance Mr GG would end up eating half. Then both my boys would be happy… a mother knows these things.

When the breaky bagel arrived it looked pretty special! Miles of crispy bacon, cheese and BBQ sauce piled up with a delicious gooey egg peeking through the hole in the bagel. Locky thoroughly enjoyed his half of the bagel and Mr GG polished off the other half.

The dish that had lured hubby away from the bagel was the Eggs Benedict served with chorizo sausage and spinach on a muffin with a creamy hollandaise sauce. The aroma from the fried chorizo was intoxicating, and teamed with a perfectly poached egg, complete with a lush runny yolk, the dish was just mouthwatering.
Service was extremely fast and friendly. I didn’t get time to get a glass of water from the cooler before our drinks had arrived. Then our meals followed so quickly I hadn’t even started my coffee. This was amazing given every table was taken inside and out, plus there was a steady stream of take away coffees being served.

With full and satisfied bellies we decided to head down the coast a little to Palm Beach and give the kids a play at the Pirate Park. I always keep a picnic blanket in the car as it often comes in handy for an impromptu picnic or glass of wine in the great outdoors.

Mr GG and I found a shady spot under a tree to doze. He read a book, I wrote this story and reminisced about our brunch while the kids played and enjoyed the rest of the day.

Another perfect day at the Gold Coast.
