Bruny Island Accommodation – Adventure Bay Retreat

After a full day on a self guided Bruny Island Tasting Tour, hubby and I were looking forward to checking into our Bruny Island accommodation for a little rest and relaxation.  Bruny Island accommodation consists mainly of self contained, self catering guest houses.  Our home for the evening was the Bruny Island Adventure Bay Retreat.

The retreat has two self contained residences on the property.  The first is a gorgeous cottage, aptly named “the cottage” and the second is “the lodge”.

The lodge was our home for the evening.

As we arrived we noticed a few wallabies feeding on the grass, we commented to each other on how the children would enjoy seeing the wildlife. We already knew we would be coming back here with the kids, we had such a great day and Adventure Bay Retreat felt like home.

We continued up the driveway and spotted the best children’s swing ever!

Tied to a very high tree limb was a swing that dreams… and nightmares are made of.  Mr GG announced, “We are playing on the swing later!” and I agreed! I have to admit, I felt a little guilty leaving the kids behind when I saw how well they were catered for on the property. The cubby house and swing would have kept them amused for hours.

The lodge is designed to accommodate up to 8 people in three well sized bedrooms.

Two bedrooms in the lodge have gorgeous king-sized beds, fitted with luxurious goose and down feather mattress topper, plus quilt and king-sized pillows.  Have I mentioned that I’ve fallen in love with the sumptuous linen we have been sleeping in during our Tasmanian stay. I am not a fan of cool weather but sleeping under a goose down doona is just lovely!

Hubby and I chose the bedroom which had the en-suite attached. In our bathroom we found a huge free standing stone bath which had a gorgeous view of the bushland outside. Thankfully it was still very private with only the wallabies able to peek in the window.

The third bedroom consists of two sets of bunks, accommodating up to four people. The lodge would be perfectly suitable for two families holidaying together. Upstairs is a mezzanine level which houses a children’s playroom full of board games, kids books and toys.

A large rustic dining table made a welcoming, homely feature next to the kitchen. It would be easy to imagine a large family enjoying a cosy meal around the table.

The kitchen had everything you would need for a self catered holiday, full-size fridge and fully equipped kitchen. Much to my delight there was also a cappuccino machine taking pride of place on the counter. Once again Mr GG will see my happy smiling face first thing in the morning, when he brings my coffee in bed.

Adventure Bay Retreat Lounge

A sunken lounge room opens onto the BBQ deck with views out over Adventure Bay.  The property is so tranquil with both bushland and ocean views to enjoy. There is nothing to hear except the birds calling.

As the day turned to dusk I wandered out onto the BBQ deck. The property literally moved with wallabies! The ten or so we had seen during the day had turned into 50 or 60 wallabies grazing on the grass.  It was such an awesome sight!

We had seen pictures of a white wallaby in the Bruny Island Accommodation brochures.  I actually saw this wallaby on the property.  Unfortunately it was the first to scatter when I opened the door… so no picture, sorry.

Although it had been a beautiful sunny day on Bruny Island, the evening did get cool enough to warrant the lighting of a fire.  Before any Tasmanian’s judge me for needing a fire in the middle of summer, please remember, fires are romantic, and this is a romantic getaway!

So with a gentle fire glowing in the open fireplace we snuggled on the lounge.  The flames were mesmerizing. Mr GG poured us both a glass of Tasmanian Pinot Nior and used the sound system to play our bridal waltz, “Sleep” by the Dandy Warhols.

Would you like to take a little peek inside my “love nest?”

A perfect evening, perfect accommodation and a perfect husband to share it with!

If you are looking for a romantic getaway Adventure Bay Retreat also has “the cottage.”

The Cottage

The cottage would be perfect for a couple’s getaway.

Imagine taking a romantic spa and watching the wildlife and bushland view from your bathroom. The cottage features a two person spa with glass walls that allow guests to in the natural beauty of the property in total privacy.

Both properties have the gorgeous king-size bed with luxurious linen, goose down quilts and mattress topper, and self-contained kitchen with washing machine and coffee machine.

The cottage and the lodge have underfloor heating and the gorgeous fireplace that hubby and I enjoyed.

We were offered complimentary use of the Adventure Bay Retreat bikes to peddle around Bruny Island but I was feeling much too lazy for anything like exercise. I was happy using the time to enjoy the natural bush surrounds from the lounge.

Gourmet Getaways stayed as a guest of the Adventure Bay Retreat.  All opinions expressed in the article are an honest opinion of the property, and our experience at the time of our stay.
